E-commerce

Shopify and custom storefronts built for conversion, speed, and a marketing team that can actually launch a campaign on Wednesday.

Stores that actually
convert, not just look the part.

Shopify theme builds in 4–6 weeks. Hydrogen headless in 8–12. For DTC brands doing $1M–$40M who are tired of apologizing for the site in every sales call.

Quick answer

Studio AM builds Shopify theme stores and Hydrogen headless storefronts for DTC brands doing $1M to $40M in annual revenue. Theme builds launch in 4 to 6 weeks. Hydrogen in 8 to 12.

We pick the right path based on your roadmap, not on which option bills more hours.

The performance tax

Where most Shopify stores quietly leak money.

From our March 2026 audits: the average DTC storefront ships 47 third-party scripts, 840 KB of unused JS, and sits at an INP above 400 ms on real mobile hardware. Every millisecond is a conversion rounding down.

Theme build or Hydrogen headless?

Two honest paths. Toggle to compare. We recommend the one that matches your roadmap, not the one with the bigger invoice.

Fastest to launch

Dawn or Impact base. Custom sections. Ships in weeks.

Works for 80% of DTC brands under $10M. You keep the Shopify admin, theme editor, and every app you need. We build custom sections for the pages that matter : PDP, cart, collection and leave the rest clean and editable by your team.

  • Theme editor stays usable
  • Every app drop-in works
  • 4–6 week launch window
  • Team can ship campaigns

What we handle

Every piece of the store build.

Store architecture

Collection logic, metafields, product taxonomy, variants, bundles. Plumbing that scales past eight figures.

Conversion optimization

PDP layout, cart drawer, checkout, trust signals. Every friction point audited and removed.

Klaviyo flows

Welcome, abandoned cart, post-purchase, winback. Templates on-brand, tested, and measured.

Subscriptions

Recharge or Skio. Bundle logic, skip-a-shipment, dunning. Configured end to end.

Reviews & UGC

Judge.me or Okendo. Automated request flow, schema markup, photo galleries on PDPs.

Platform migration

WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce. SEO-preserving redirects, zero-downtime cutover.

The stack

Tools we wire up, and the ones we will tell you to remove.

FAQ

The questions founders actually ask.

Shopify or a custom store: how do you decide?
Shopify for 90% of clients. The admin, payments, apps, and tax handling are not worth rebuilding. Custom only when product complexity or checkout logic genuinely does not fit Shopify: subscription bundles with conditional pricing, B2B portals with approval workflows, marketplaces. We will say no to custom when Shopify is the right answer.
Do you build on Shopify themes or Hydrogen?
Both. A well-chosen theme (Dawn or Impact base) with custom sections ships in 4-6 weeks and works for most DTC brands. Hydrogen is our default when storefront speed, headless content, or truly custom UX matters more than launch velocity. It takes 8-12 weeks but wins on Core Web Vitals every time.
Do you handle support and updates after launch?
Yes. Post-launch we include a 30-day conversion review as part of every build. After that, we offer retainer support for bug fixes, feature additions, and ongoing CRO. For routine operations, your team should be able to run the store without us in the loop. That is how we set it up.
Can you migrate us from WooCommerce, Magento, or BigCommerce?
Yes, and we have done all three. The hard part is never the platform switch. It is preserving SEO equity, redirecting roughly 2,000+ product URLs cleanly, and mapping historical customer and order data. We run a migration audit first and write the plan before anyone touches production.
What about apps and integrations: Klaviyo, Recharge, reviews?
Covered. Klaviyo for email and SMS, Recharge or Skio for subscriptions, Judge.me or Okendo for reviews, Shogun or Hydrogen for landing pages, Loop for returns. We configure, connect, and document. Then we tell you which apps to remove because they are quietly hurting your checkout speed.
