The Challenge

Growing teams tend to run performance management across a patchwork of tools — spreadsheets for reviews, Notion for OKR tracking, email threads for 1:1 follow-ups, Slack for recognition. Each tool handles one piece of the job reasonably well. Together, they leave managers and employees without a single picture of how anyone is actually doing.

The enterprise platforms built to solve this, like Lattice and BambooHR, are designed for HR departments with months to spend on implementation and pricing built for organizations with hundreds of employees. A 30-person startup running its first structured review cycle doesn’t have six months to configure a system. It needs something that works next week.

That gap is what we built Harmny to fill: an AI-powered performance management platform that consolidates reviews, OKRs, 1:1s, career development, recognition, and HR operations into one product.

Our Approach

The engagement covered the full scope — naming, brand identity, product design, and front-end development.

The name was the starting point. “Harmny” is a compressed form of harmony; the missing vowel makes it read as a product name rather than a dictionary word while keeping the meaning intact. The visual identity followed the same logic: a clean wordmark, a structured color system, and a UI palette built for extended daily use. A tool used for real performance evaluations shouldn’t compete with the information on screen for attention.

The harder problem was product design. Harmny handles reviews, goals, 1:1s, development plans, recognition, and HR operations — a lot of surface area for one product. Its primary user is a manager without a dedicated HR team, already doing a full job beyond managing people, so every feature had to be fast, clear, and self-explanatory rather than something that needed configuring. We designed toward a standard set by an early customer’s own feedback: it needed to be the first HR tool their managers actually opened without being asked.

On the development side, Harmny is a full-stack web application with real-time updates and a fully responsive interface, architected to scale from a 10-person early-stage team to a multi-hundred-person organization. The AI layer that surfaces insights across reviews, goals, and 1:1s is built into the core product flows rather than added as a separate layer.

Results

Harmny is live at harmny.ai, free for teams of up to 10 people. It’s the largest digital product Studio AM has shipped to date — full scope from naming through a production platform with real users and real data. For the complete build story, read how we built Harmny.
